The Board determined that Meta and WhatsApp, which process the personal data of the relevant persons in Turkey and are subject to the provisions of the Personal Data Protection Law, within the scope of the ex officio review it initiated, did not fulfill this obligation in a timely manner, despite the obligation to register with the Data Controllers Registry.
For this reason, the Personal Data Protection Board, which ruled that Meta and WhatsApp separately be fined 2 million 665 thousand lira, also decided to instruct Meta and WhatsApp to fulfill the obligation to register within 30 days.
