With the statement made by the Turkish Construction Material Industrialists’ Association (Turkey IMSAD), the construction materials export figures for 2022 were shared.
According to the statement based on Turkey IMSAD Construction Materials Industry Foreign Trade Index December 2022 report, the export figure realized by the sector in the whole of 2022 rose to 33.74 billion dollars.
Tayfun Küçükoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Türkiye İMSAD, whose views are included in the statement, stated that the amount of exports decreased by 11 percent compared to the previous year and decreased to 57.65 million tons in the said period.
Pointing out that the construction materials industry showed a high performance in 2022, Küçükoğlu said:
“In 2022, we exported 33.74 billion dollars, 57.65 million tons. In 2022, we broke the export record of all time as the sector. The annual export value increased by 9.5 percent compared to 2021. The average export unit price is also increased by a percent compared to 2021. It became 0.59 dollars/kg, increasing by 23. Especially in the second half of the year, the recession concerns and the slowdowns in the markets prevented annual exports from exceeding 35 billion dollars.
However, looking at the whole of the 12 months, the export record has been broken since August 2013, when Turkey IMSAD Foreign Trade Index was started to be measured on behalf of our industry. The Turkish construction materials industry makes us proud on behalf of our country with its development. While the price and quality performance of our products increase our reliability and competitiveness, it also allows to increase market share and positive perception.”
“2022 export performance gave hope for 2023”
Stating that the foreign trade performance of the construction materials industry improved in the last month of 2022, Küçükoğlu gave the following information:
“Despite the shrinkage in the market, exports were higher in December 2022 compared to October and November. While exports amounted to $2.61 billion in December last year, it was one of the lowest monthly exports of the year in terms of value. It was also 12 percent in value compared to December of the previous year. there was a decline.
The effect of the contraction in the market came to the fore in the decrease of construction materials exports in December by 20.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, with 4.28 million tons. The average annual export unit price of the construction materials industry increased by 11.2 percent in December compared to December of the previous year and became 0.61 dollars/kg. When we look at all these data, the export performance of our sector in 2022 has been promising for the whole of 2023.”
Küçükoğlu pointed out that the export performance of the sub-sectors in the construction materials industry is in the direction of growth throughout 2022, and stated that the average export unit prices in all eight sub-product groups in 2022 increased compared to 2021.
