According to the statement made by Istanbul Airport Operator, İGA, more than 4,000 readers and leading executives of the aviation industry participated in the voting, which was held after receiving the opinion of aviation authorities.
Singapore Changi, Dubai, Lisbon and Doha airports were among the winners of the “Air Transport Awards” competition, which evaluates 14 different categories of the aviation industry.
IGA Istanbul Airport, on the other hand, became the first airport to receive the “best airport” award for the third time in a row.
IGA Airport Operations Chairman and General Manager Kadri Samsunlu could not attend the ceremony held in Montreal, Canada with the participation of industry leaders, due to the earthquakes that took place in Kahramanmaraş on February 6th.
Air Transport News (ATN) General Director and Chief Executive (CEO), who went from Istanbul to Montreal for the ceremony, Dr. Kostas Iatrou presented the award to Samsunlu at Istanbul Airport.

In his speech here, Samsunlu said that as İGA Istanbul Airport, they had a very successful year despite all the difficulties they faced in the aviation industry.
Expressing his satisfaction with receiving the same award three times in a row, Samsunlu continued as follows:
“While continuing to be Europe’s busiest global hub for three consecutive years, our airport served 64.5 million passengers last year, making it one of Europe’s most operationally resilient airports. Due to the heartbreaking earthquake disaster in Turkey, our airport personally attended the award ceremony. However, receiving the ‘Airport of the Year’ award by the Air Transport Awards shows how resilient our country and İGA Istanbul Airport are after a major disaster such as an earthquake.”
Stating that receiving such a beautiful award during these bad days changed their spirit world and gave them the courage to do their job better, Samsunlu said, “We will quickly overcome these bad days as a nation, in solidarity with our friends in other countries and continents. Kadri Samsunlu noted that she received the award on behalf of thousands of her colleagues and other stakeholders at the airport.
ATN Director-General and CEO Iatrou expressed his sorrow for the earthquake disaster last month and expressed his condolences to the relatives of those who died in the disaster.

Voting takes place every year
The “Air Transport Awards” are organized in partnership with the Hermes-Air Transport Organization and ATN. Leading organizations in the industry such as Airports Council International (ACI), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA) also serve on the award’s selection committee.
Voting for the awards is carried out every year by those who are experts in airports around the world, whose opinions are sought on travel, and who express their opinions on issues such as travel and accommodation.
