Turkish Statistical Institute announced the retail sales indices for February.

In the statement, it was stated that data obtained from value added tax (VAT) returns were used in the calculation of retail sales indices.

Reminding that force majeure was declared in the provinces affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes in Turkey on 6 February and the declarations were postponed, the statement said, therefore, for the missing observations in the calculations for February, alternative data sources such as e-invoice, e-archive invoice data and statistical methods were used. reported to have been made. In the statement, it was informed that the share of the size estimated by these methods in the total is 3.76 percent.

According to the bulletin, retail sales volume at constant prices increased by 21.5 percent in February compared to the same month of the previous year. In the same month, sales of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 24.3 percent, non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel) by 24.5 percent, and automotive fuel sales by 7.8 percent.

Retail sales volume at constant prices decreased by 6.5 percent in February compared to the previous month. In the same month, sales of food, beverages and tobacco decreased by 0.3 percent, non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel) by 8.7 percent, and automotive fuel sales by 8.8 percent.


Retail turnover

Retail turnover at current prices rose 93.4 percent year-on-year in February. In the same month, food, beverage and tobacco sales increased by 113.1 percent, non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel) by 99.1%, and automotive fuel sales by 47.6 percent.

Retail turnover at current prices decreased by 5.5 percent in February compared to the previous month. In the same month, food, beverage and tobacco sales increased by 2.1 percent, while non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel) decreased by 8.3 percent and automotive fuel sales by 8.6 percent.
