The ban on the 2022-2023 fishing season in the seas started on 15 April for industrial fishing vessels (purseseiners and trawlers).

The fishing ban will last until September 15 for the Mediterranean and September 1 for other seas. Small-scale fishermen engaged in coastal fishing will be able to continue fishing as they are exempted from this ban.

Considering the sustainability of fisheries stocks during the prohibition period this year, as every year, the Ministry permits the activities of fishing vessels of 12 meters and above in international waters adjacent to the territorial waters of the country, for the continuation of their existence in the “blue homeland”.

Provided that they obtain permission and comply with the other conditions determined by the Ministry, fishermen can use purse seine and bottom trawls in the Mediterranean between April 15 and July 15, with bottom trawling only for red shrimp fishing between July 15 and September 15, and in the Aegean Sea between July 15 and September 1 in the Aegean Sea. will be able to engage in hunting activities with bottom trawlers.

As in previous years, approximately 300 fishing vessels are expected to be in the “blue homeland” by obtaining the necessary permits this year.
