President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan gave the good news of new oil reserves. “We found oil with a production capacity of 100,000 barrels per day in Cudi, Gabar,” he said. Erdogan announced the good news of the oil reserve, named after the martyr teacher Aybüke Yalçın, in Konya yesterday.

Murat Kalay, Secretary General of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Platform Association, evaluated the new oil discovery announced by President Erdogan yesterday.

Stating that Turkey’s recent breakthroughs in oil and natural gas exploration are the result of exploration works carried out on land and in the sea since 2020, Kalay stated that oil production started in the wells drilled in the Martyr Esma Çevik field last year.

Stating that Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) has made a new discovery in Gabar, where it carries out drilling activities, Kalay said, “According to official information, it has been shared that this field will reach a production capacity of 100 thousand barrels per day with 100 wells. Of course, this can happen from today to tomorrow. It is not a production contribution. If we set out that we will produce around 900 or 1000 barrels per day from one well, the fact that this figure will reach 100 thousand barrels per day when a total of 100 wells are opened. will be achieved with the implementation of the project. he said.

Saying that Turkey’s daily production increased to 80,000 barrels with the discovery made in the Martyr Esma Çevik field last year, Kalay said, “With this newly discovered field joining our production in the next 2-3 years, Turkey has the ability to produce around 150-180 thousand barrels per day. Considering that we will be able to produce a total of 100 thousand barrels per day from 100 wells in the coming period, the contribution of this discovery to our economy with today’s figures will be around 2.9 billion dollars on an annual basis.” said.

20% of consumption will be met from domestic production

Kalay stated that the discoveries will reduce foreign dependency in energy and the energy import bill, and that with a new production increase of 100 thousand barrels, Turkey will be able to meet approximately 20 percent of its own consumption from domestic production.

Stating that the economic contribution of the discovery will increase investment and exploration activities in the country, Kalay said, “If we consider that the production of a well in Turkey is 50-60 barrels per day, a well that produces 1000 barrels per day really adds a dimension that changes the equation and the game. The current discovery is based on the quality of crude oil. When evaluated, it is also pleasing news that there is an oil with high gravity, which we can sell at a better price and which can be refined at less cost.” used the phrase.

The goal of becoming a fully independent country in energy

Turkey, which has signed giant projects in the field of energy in recent years, has come one step closer to its goal of becoming a fully independent country in energy with the new discovery in Gabar.

President Erdoğan announced that a field with a net oil reserve of 150 million barrels was discovered in Gabar Mountain in December last year and stated that the reserve value in the field was approximately 12 billion dollars. With the said discovery, Turkey’s producible oil reserves increased from 450 million barrels to 600 million barrels.

TPAO estimates the total on-site oil reserve of the new discovery in the Şehit Aybüke Yalçın Field to be approximately 1 billion barrels, and the producible reserve to be approximately 600 million barrels.

According to the data of the General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs, while daily oil production was approximately 59 thousand barrels in 1999, it reached 64 thousand barrels in 2020, 69 thousand barrels in 2021 and 80 thousand barrels by the end of 2022.

With the discovery announced by President Erdogan yesterday, it is aimed to increase Turkey’s oil production to 180,000 barrels.
