Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the labor force statistics for the January-March period.

Accordingly, the seasonally adjusted number of unemployed persons aged 15 and over in Turkey decreased by 62 thousand in the first quarter of the year compared to the last quarter of the previous year and became 3 million 483 thousand. Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, on the other hand, decreased by 0.3 points to 9.9 percent. Unemployment rate decreased by 1.2 points in the first quarter compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

In the first quarter of the year, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate among the young population covering the 15-24 age group became 19.9 percent with an increase of 0.9 percentage points compared to the previous quarter. The unemployment rate in this age group was estimated as 15.6 percent for men and 27.6 percent for women.

On the other hand, the first quarter survey of the Household Labor Force Survey could not be conducted in Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Malatya and Osmaniye due to the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake disaster. The share of sample households in these provinces in the sample was 4.1 percent. The results in the bulletin were calculated by weighting to give an estimate on the basis of Turkey over the provinces where the survey could be applied. The effect of the earthquake could not be reflected in the indicators since the implementation could not be realized in the specified provinces. With the start of the field application, it is planned to measure the earthquake effect of the past periods.
