Turkish Statistical Institute announced the labor force input indices for the January-March period of 2023.

Accordingly, the employment index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 7 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 4.2 percent in the industry sector, 16.7 percent in the construction sector and 7.1 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The index of hours worked in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 5.9 percent in the January-March period compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 3.4 percent in the industrial sector, 15.1 percent in the construction sector, and 5.9 percent in the trade-service sectors.

Gross wage-salary index in industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 119.4 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 114.4 percent in the industry sector, 136.6 percent in the construction sector and 120.9 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The employment index in the aggregate of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 1.2 percent in the January-March period compared to the previous quarter. The index showed an increase of 0.3 percent in the industrial sector, 5.5 percent in the construction sector and 1 percent in the trade-service sectors.

Hours worked index increased by 0.9 percent compared to the previous quarter in the said period. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index did not change in the industrial sector, it increased by 5 percent in the construction sector and 0.6 percent in the trade-service sectors.

Gross wage-salary index in industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 23.4 percent in the January-March period compared to the previous quarter. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 21.8 percent in the industry sector, 25.9 percent in the construction sector and 24.2 percent in the trade-service sectors.


Labor cost and hourly earnings index

The hourly labor cost index increased by 125.2 percent in this period compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, it increased by 136.4 percent in the industry sector, 111.9 percent in the construction sector and 120.5 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly earnings index in industry, construction and trade-services sectors increased by 107.1 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, it increased by 107.4 percent in the industry sector, 105.6 percent in the construction sector and 108.5 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly labor cost excluding earnings index increased by 227 percent in this period compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 302.3 percent in the industry sector, 143 percent in the construction sector and 188.8 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly labor cost index in industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 29.1 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the previous quarter. The index recorded an increase of 31.8 percent in the industrial sector, 22.4 percent in the construction sector and 28.5 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly earnings index also increased by 22.3 percent in this period compared to the previous quarter. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 21.7 percent in the industry sector, 19.9 percent in the construction sector and 23.4 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly labor cost index excluding the industry, construction and trade-services sectors increased by 64.7 percent in the January-March period compared to the previous quarter. The index showed an increase of 81.8 percent in the industrial sector, 34.3 percent in the construction sector and 56.7 percent in the trade-service sectors.
