Turkish Statistical Institute announced the building permit statistics for the first quarter of 2023.

Accordingly, in the said period, the number of apartments for which construction permits were issued by municipalities on an annual basis increased by 0.7 percent, while the number of buildings decreased by 9.2 percent and their surface area decreased by 2.1 percent.

While the total surface area of ​​the buildings for which the building permit was granted was 26.7 million square meters, it was observed that 14.2 million square meters of this was residential, 7.1 million square meters of non-residential areas and 5.4 million square meters of common use area.

According to the purpose of use, the highest share was for residential buildings with two or more flats, with 16.9 million square meters. This was followed by residential buildings with a flat area of ​​2.5 million square meters.

In the occupancy permits issued by the municipalities, the number of buildings decreased by 10.5 percent, the number of flats by 19 percent and the surface area decreased by 17.2 percent in the said quarter compared to the same period of 2022.

While the total surface area of ​​these buildings was calculated as 25.2 million square meters, 14.4 million square meters of this was residential, 5.2 million square meters of non-residential and 5.7 million square meters of common use areas.

According to the purpose of use, the highest share was for residential buildings with two or more flats, with 18.7 million square meters. Industrial buildings and warehouses followed with 1.6 million square meters.
