The arrival of the wedding season has increased the sales of diamond products. However, there is a point to be noted at this point. The diamond you buy because it is natural may turn out to be synthetic.
Selling synthetic diamonds is not a crime, but selling it as if it’s real is a big crime. So, how will you know if the diamond you bought is real or synthetic?
The product passes a two-step test
This is where Turkey’s gemology laboratory comes into play. In this laboratory, by looking at first with infrared rays and then with ultraviolet rays, it is understood whether the product is synthetic or real.
Established with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency, GLT analyzes the products on the same day at an affordable price. The certificate issued is valid all over the world.
Risk is high in multi-stone products
Gemologist Emre Gunay, “There are full rounds, or large necklaces. For example, there are 300 stones on it. We analyze them. Sometimes 30 of them are 40 synthetic and the rest are natural. In this case, we mark them, as if they are being replaced. So we shouldn’t just think of it as a single stone. In products with a lot of stones, the rate of mixing and mixing increases a little bit.‘ he said.
It is very difficult to detect real and synthetic diamonds with the naked eye. However, the price difference of products that are very similar to each other is almost 10 times.
“Certificate of the purchased product must be requested”
Gunay, “It’s been happening intermittently for the past 5 years. But right now, I mean, let me tell you, it appears every day.” said.
Experts warn to buy certified products. If it is taken without a certificate, it should definitely be analyzed.
