Eastern Black Sea Exporters Union Deputy Chairman of the Board Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan said that 656 tons of anchovy were exported from the country in the first 4 months of the year.

Stating that an income of 3 million 880 thousand 628 dollars was obtained from these exports, Gürdoğan stated that anchovy exports decreased by 7 percent on amount basis and increased by 5 percent on value basis compared to the same period of the previous year, with an income of 3 million 701 thousand 436 dollars corresponding to 703 tons.

Stating that France ranks first among the 20 countries where anchovy is sold, Gürdoğan said, “This period, anchovy was exported from our country to France for 1 million 475 thousand 294 dollars, to Belgium for 968 thousand 258 dollars and to the USA for 413 thousand 635 dollars. ” said.

Drawing attention to the diversity of countries in anchovy exports, Gürdoğan stated that anchovies were also sold to Sweden, Iraq, Lebanon, Malaysia and Somalia during this period.

Gürdoğan said that a total of 137 thousand 419 dollars of anchovy was sent from Trabzon to Germany, Sweden and Canada in a 4-month period.

Stating that there is not enough fishing this season due to the small size of anchovy, and that sustainability is very important in anchovy as in all products, Gürdoğan said, “If a one-season anchovy hunting ban is imposed for adequate and sustainable anchovy fishing, anchovy will reach a larger size. Since the product and therefore the processed product will be obtained, this will have a positive effect on exports.” said.
