Turkish Statistical Institute announced the housing sales statistics for May.

Accordingly, house sales across Turkey decreased by 7.7 percent in May compared to the same month of the previous year, to 113 thousand 276.

Housing sales in the January-May period, on the other hand, decreased by 16.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 482 thousand 143.

Istanbul had the highest share in house sales in May with 18,435 house sales and 16.3 percent. According to the number of sales, Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 11 thousand 196 house sales and 9.9 percent share, and Antalya with 6 thousand 158 house sales and 5.4 percent share. The provinces with the lowest number of house sales were determined as Ardahan with 18 houses, Hakkari with 38 houses, Bayburt and Tunceli with 55 houses, respectively.

Mortgaged house sales in Turkey decreased by 6.3 percent in May compared to the same month of the previous year and became 27 thousand 476. The share of mortgaged sales in total housing sales was recorded as 24.3 percent.

Mortgage sales in the January-May period, on the other hand, decreased by 16.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, to 108 thousand 67.
