According to the data of the Ministry of Commerce, Customs Enforcement teams seized 7 billion 749 million 944 thousand liras of smuggled goods in 2021.
Last year, the teams seized 11 billion 960 million 735 thousand liras worth of smuggled goods with an increase of 54 percent.
In the January-June period of this year, the teams carried out an illegal goods operation worth 7 billion 954 million 598 thousand liras.
Electronics took the first place
Electronic goods took the first place among the smuggled goods seized. During this period, smuggled electronic goods worth 2 billion 856 million 193 thousand liras were seized.
The value of illegal vehicles seized in the first 6 months of the year was 1 billion 754 million 711 thousand liras.
While a record amount of substances were seized by the teams in the fight against drugs, the entry of heroin, opium gum, base morphine, cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, ectasy, captagon, skunk and khat drugs into the country was prevented. Customs Enforcement teams seized 5.3 tons of different types of drugs in the first half of the year.
Alcohol and tobacco products came to the fore
Alcohol and tobacco products were the other items that came to the fore after the electronic goods and drug operations. In the first half of the year, the teams confiscated 463 million 426 thousand liras of alcohol and tobacco products.
Customs enforcement teams prevented 319 million 708 thousand liras of machinery and equipment from entering the country illegally in the first 6 months.
During the said period, 199 million 227 thousand lira worth of smuggled precious metals were caught by the Customs Enforcement teams, while the value of the seized textile products was recorded as 159 million 556 thousand liras.
Approximately 67.3 million liras of foreign currency was seized
Last year, 67 million 352 thousand 964 lira foreign currency was also among the items confiscated at the customs gates.
The teams prevented 40 million 666 thousand liras worth of illegal food products from entering the country last year.
The teams seized medical goods worth 34 million 176 thousand liras during their operations.
During this period, 11 million 426 thousand lira worth of chemical smuggling and 8 million 147 thousand lira worth of fuel smuggling were prevented. In the seized fuel products, diesel and fuel oil came to the fore.
1429 illegal immigrants caught
The teams also ensured the capture of 1429 illegal immigrants in the 6-month period of the year.
On the other hand, 649 thousand 185 packs of cigarettes, 78 thousand 974 kilograms of tea and 44 thousand 269 mobile phones were also seized as part of the operations.
