According to the information compiled from the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), 8 million 601 thousand people residing in the country traveled in the January-March period of this year.
Total travel expenses of domestic tourists amounted to 22 billion 271 million 455 thousand liras. Travelers stayed an average of 7.4 nights in the places they visited.
Considering the purposes of travel, domestic tourists made a total of 6 million 643 thousand visits to their relatives in this period. The expenditure on these trips increased by 97.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 11 billion 984 thousand 662 liras.
After visiting relatives, accommodation for sightseeing, entertainment and vacations took the second place with 1 million 858 thousand trips. During this period, domestic tourists spent 5 billion 980 million 413 thousand liras for travel, entertainment and vacation.
1.4 billion liras spent on health tourism
The number of visits made in the first quarter of this year due to health needs was 596 thousand. In this context, 1 billion 427 million 866 thousand liras were spent on travels.
The amount of expenditure on 117 thousand trips by domestic tourists for commercial relations and fairs was recorded as 314 million 265 thousand liras. Domestic tourists spent 19 million 679 thousand liras in 12 thousand trips for cultural purposes.
On the other hand, when the amount of expenditure made by domestic tourists before the trip is analyzed, personal expenditures such as clothing, medicine, bags, cameras and films increased by 56.2 percent in the first three months compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 91 thousand 513 liras.
