According to the data of the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, 8 million 514 thousand 806 foreign tourists came to Istanbul in the 7-month period of 2022. The number of tourists increased by 15 percent in the same period of this year and became 9 million 776 thousand 635.

The city, which was visited by 1 million 759 thousand 506 foreign tourists in July last year, hosted 1 million 873 thousand 97 foreign tourists this July. Thus, the number of foreign tourists arriving in July increased by about 6 percent compared to last year. According to the data, after July of this year, the most tourists came to Istanbul in the same month of 2022.

In July, 1 million 823 thousand 416 people reached Istanbul by air and 49 thousand 681 people by sea.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of arrivals by air increased by 5 percent, while those arriving by sea increased by 72 percent.

In July of this year, 1642 passengers arrived from Atatürk Airport, 517 thousand 429 passengers from Sabiha Gökçen Airport, and 1 million 304 thousand 345 passengers from Istanbul Airport. By sea, 1846 from Tuzla Port, 42 thousand 520 from Karaköy Port, 2 thousand 926 from Sarayburnu Port, 1719 from Zeytinburnu Port, 361 from Ambarlı Port, 240 from Haydarpaşa Port, 39 from Marmara Port, 30 foreign visitors came from Pendik Port.

71.53 percent of the tourists arriving by air used Istanbul Airport and 28.38 percent used Sabiha Gökçen Airport.


Russians in first place in July

Russians took the first place with 185 thousand 636 tourists who came to Istanbul in July, as it was last month.

Germany with 135 thousand 568 tourists, Saudi Arabia with 135 thousand 96 people, USA with 105 thousand 41 visitors, Iran with 97 thousand 352 tourists, France with 69 thousand 263 people, England with 69 thousand 6 tourists, Iraq with 51 thousand 257 people, and 45 thousand 854 visitors. Kuwait, Israel with 45 thousand 257 people, followed by the Netherlands with 44 thousand 273 tourists.

Of those who visited Istanbul in July, 9.91 percent came from Russia, 7.24 percent from Germany, 7.21 percent from Saudi Arabia, 5.61 percent from the USA, 5 percent. 20 percent came from Iran, 3.70 percent from France, 3.68 percent from England (United Kingdom), and 2.74 percent from Iraq.

In July, tourists from 196 countries visited the city, one each from the Solomon Islands, North Korea and Papua New Guinea, and two people from Laos and East Timor.


1 out of every 3 tourists visiting Turkey came to Istanbul

Istanbul hosted approximately one-third of the total 26 million 766 thousand 240 tourists who visited Turkey in 7 months of the year.

On the other hand, 1 million 666 thousand 319 tourists visited Istanbul in July 2019, 301 thousand 930 tourists in July 2020, and 1 million 130 thousand 999 tourists in July 2021.
