According to the data compiled from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkey increased by 64.7 percent in the January-August period of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 755 thousand 282 units.
In the said period, automobile sales increased by 64.3 percent to 582 thousand 419 units, while light commercial vehicle sales increased by 66.4 percent to 172 thousand 863 units.
Gasoline car sales rank first
In the Turkish automobile market, in the first 8 months of this year, gasoline cars took the first place with sales of 401 thousand 118 units, while diesel cars took the second place with 91 thousand 492 units.
Hybrid car sales were 60,489 and autogas car sales were 6,429.
Electric car sales continued to remain well above autogas car sales with 22 thousand 891 units. 3 thousand 283 electric cars were sold in the January-August period of last year.
597.3 percent increase in electric car sales
Gasoline car sales increased by 61.6 percent, diesel car sales increased by 51.7 percent and autogas car sales increased by 2.4 percent in the first 8 months of this year compared to the same period of 2022.
In this period, hybrid car sales increased by 65.7 percent and electric car sales by 597.3 percent.
The share of electric increased from 0.9 percent to 3.9 percent
The share of gasoline cars, which was 70 percent in January-August 2022, decreased to 61.6 percent in the same period of this year.
In the said period, the share of diesel cars decreased from 17 percent to 15.7 percent and the share of autogas cars decreased from 1.8 to 1.1 percent.
The share of electric cars in total sales in Turkey increased from 0.9 percent to 3.9 percent. The share of hybrid cars increased from 10.3 percent to 10.4 percent.
Togg triggered electric car sales
Many brands offered their ambitious models, which they had announced before, for sale in the Turkish market during the year. In addition, Chinese companies continue to show interest in the Turkish market.
In addition to electric cars, the number of hybrid motor cars, which are another part of electric mobility, is also increasing. The market share of “green cars” increased with Togg’s entry into the market.
According to ODMD data, Togg managed to become the locomotive brand of the electric vehicle segment by completing 3 thousand 400 deliveries with the T10X model in the first 8 months.
According to the post on Togg’s official social media account, T10X has achieved significant success in the automotive market in the last 4 months since April when it was put on sale.
T10X reached a market share of 18.2 percent in the all electric vehicles market, 33.3 percent in the electric SUV segment, 55.3 percent in the electric C-SUV segment and 3 percent in the entire passenger vehicle market in August.
In addition, Togg T10X became the leader in the best-selling brand and model category in the entire electric vehicle market. On the other hand, Tesla, which started sales with the Model Y model in Turkey, prefers not to report country-based official sales figures.
