Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan spoke at the meeting he attended at Ankara Chamber of Commerce.
Making statements regarding employment, Işıkhan said, “Our country has reached the highest level of employment in its history in recent years. 1 million 955 thousand employment increase was recorded throughout the year.”
Net 220 thousand employment increase in the first 6 months
Stating that there is an increase in employment in all sectors except the agricultural sector, Işıkhan gave the following information:
“There was an increase in employment of 520 thousand in the industry sector and 1 million 519 thousand in the services sector, including construction. In the first six months of the year, despite the negative effects of the earthquake and the regulations regarding the conditions for entitlement to retirement, a net employment increase of 220 thousand was achieved.”
Employment rate was 48.4 percent
According to TUIK data, seasonally adjusted number of employed people increased by 318 thousand people in July compared to the previous month and increased to 31 million 671 thousand people, while the employment rate increased by 0.5 percentage points to 48.4 percent.
This rate was 65.7 percent for men and 31.5 percent for women.
