Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the workforce statistics for July.

Accordingly, the number of unemployed persons aged 15 and over decreased by 38 thousand in July compared to the previous month and became 3 million 291 thousand. The unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 points to 9.4 percent.

The unemployment rate was estimated at 7.6 percent for men and 12.9 percent for women.

In July, the unemployment rate among the young population, including the 15-24 age group, reached 18 percent, with a decrease of 0.3 points compared to the previous month. The unemployment rate in this age group was predicted to be 15.2 percent for men and 23.1 percent for women.


Employment rate was 48.4 percent

While the seasonally adjusted number of employed people increased by 318 thousand people compared to the previous month in July, reaching 31 million 671 thousand people, the employment rate increased by 0.5 points to 48.4 percent. This rate was 65.7 percent for men and 31.5 percent for women.

Seasonally adjusted workforce increased by 280 thousand people on a monthly basis in July to 34 million 962 thousand people, and the labor force participation rate increased by 0.4 points to 53.4 percent. The labor force participation rate was announced as 71.1 percent for men and 36.1 percent for women.

The unemployment rate among the young population, including the 15-24 age group, reached 18 percent in July, with a 0.3 point decrease compared to the previous month. The unemployment rate in this age group was calculated as 15.2 percent for men and 23.1 percent for women.

Adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the average weekly actual working hours of those who were employed during the reference period decreased by 0.2 hours compared to the previous month and reached 44.5 hours.

The idle workforce rate, which consists of time-related underemployment, potential workforce and unemployed people, was 22.7 percent in July, with a 1.5 point decrease compared to the previous month. While the integrated rate of time-related underemployment and the unemployed was 14.8 percent, the integrated rate of the unemployed and potential workforce was estimated at 17.8 percent.
