As part of his visit to Köse district, Gümüşhane Governor Alper Tanrısever, together with Köse District Governor Hakan Öznay, Köse Mayor Turgay Kesler and other protocol members, inspected Gümüşhane-Bayburt Airport, the foundation of which was laid by the then Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım in 2018.
Capacity to serve 2 million passengers
Giving information to Governor Tanrısever and his accompanying delegation at the work site, Airport Control Chief Bilal Timur said that the runway length of the project at international standards is 3 thousand meters, that they have the same runway length as other airports in the region, and that the terminal building and other facilities were built with a capacity to serve 2 million passengers annually.
Making statements to journalists at Gümüşhane-Bayburt Airport, where the runway, apron and infrastructure have been completed and the superstructure works are planned to be completed next year and the first flight is planned, Tanrısever said that they will request the deficiencies and minor changes regarding the airport connection roads from the Ministry of Transport.
“There are some minor changes that need to be made”
Stating that the biggest public investment in Gümüşhane is the airport, Governor Tanrısever said, “The runways have been completed, the work on the terminal building continues. These works will be completed as soon as possible. We have seen that precautions have been taken against possible earthquake or flood disasters in our airport construction, and there are only deficiencies regarding the connection roads. “As our airport construction will serve both Gümüşhane and Bayburt province, we will request the minor changes that need to be made from our Ministry of Transport,” he said.
“We want to put it at the service of our region and our country as soon as possible.”
Stating that the runway length of Gümüşhane-Bayburt airport is 3 thousand meters, the same as Rize-Artvin and Ordu-Giresun airports, Governor Tanrısever said, “Works on the terminal building and other equipment are at the level of 10 percent. The contractor company continues to work quickly. Hopefully, we want to put this into service for our region and our country as soon as possible. We will also convey our demands regarding environmental safety and environmental connection roads. “Once they are completed, we will have added great value to our country,” he said.
“There will also be an alternative airport”
Underlining that there are airports in Erzurum, Erzincan, Trabzon, Rize and Giresun in the region, and that the airport in Gümüşhane will not only serve the citizens in the region, but will also be an alternative airport to all the airports in the surrounding area, Governor Tanrısever said, “In case of possible natural events, weather conditions and disasters, this airport It will be an alternative to other airports. We have an annual passenger capacity of 2 million. This can be increased if necessary. We have enough space regarding the condition of the runways and the expansion of the terminals. We should not only think of Bayburt and Gümüşhane provinces. An airport that can serve Erzurum, Giresun, Trabzon, Sivas and Erzincan. “Hopefully, when the tourism potential of both Gümüşhane and Bayburt increases in the future, we expect international flights to be established and thus the number of passengers will increase even more,” he said.
