Turkish Statistical Institute announced the international service trade statistics for 2022.

Accordingly, while service exports excluding travel were 34.7 billion dollars in 2021, it increased by 37 percent to 47.6 billion dollars in 2022. While service imports were 28.1 billion dollars in 2021, it increased by 25.6 percent to 35.2 billion dollars in 2022.

According to the expanded balance of payments services classification, the share of transportation in total exports increased from 69.1 percent in 2021 to 74.3 percent in 2022. The share of “other business services”, which ranked second, decreased from 10.2 percent in 2021 to 8.4 percent in 2022.

The “telecommunications, computer and information services” sector ranked third in service exports in 2022 with a share of 6.2 percent.

While exports in transportation services, which constitute a significant part of service exports, were 24 billion 6 million dollars in 2021, they increased by 47.2 percent to 35 billion 348 million dollars in 2022. Exports of telecommunications, computer and information services increased by 14.2 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching 2 billion 958 million dollars.

The share of transportation in total imports was 38.8 percent in 2021 and 46.3 percent in 2022. The share of “other business services”, which ranked second, decreased from 21.4 percent in 2021 to 19.4 percent in 2022. The “telecommunications, computer and information services” sector, whose share in service imports was 10 percent, ranked third in 2022.

Service exports to European Union (EU) countries in 2022 were 18 billion 814 million dollars, and exports to other European countries were 6 billion 682 million dollars. In imports, it was seen that imports from EU countries in 2022 were 15 billion 171 million dollars, and imports from other European countries were 3 billion 807 million dollars.

EU countries became the leading country group in Turkey’s service exports and imports in 2022. While EU countries were the country group with the largest share in total service exports with 39.5 percent, 43.1 percent of total service imports were made with EU countries.

In service exports, 28.4 percent of total exports in 2022 were with Germany, the USA and the United Kingdom. In service exports, Germany ranked first with a share of 12.3 percent and an export of 5 billion 847 million dollars, while the USA ranked second with a share of 10.3 percent and the United Kingdom ranked third with a share of 5.8 percent.

In imports, Ireland ranks first with a share of 8.7 percent and 3 billion 78 million dollars in imports in 2022, while Germany ranks second with 2 billion 787 million dollars and a share of 7.9 percent, and third with a share of 7.9 percent. and the USA with 2 billion 772 million dollars.
